Effects Of Stress on Skin:
Everyone experiences stress at some point in life. It can be from being so busy, having loads or work to do, taking care of kids or family members, or simple things like needing to weed the garden, but not wanting to. It is so unfortunate we go through this because stress play roles in diseases such as high blood pressure or diabetes. Too add on to that, it can also affect the way you look! Ughhh - isn't this stressful!
If you have noticed yourself become more irritable or your skin on the fritz then chances are stress has gotten ahold of you.
Through various scientific studies there have been direct links to stress causing breakouts. Scientist believe that stress triggers to hormones in our bodies which trigger the sebaceous glands to produce more oil, thus causing more acne.
Sorry, but there is more... Stress also causes wrinkles! *sigh* as if acne wasn't enough. "A 2001 study conducted at the University of California San Francisco revealed that when cells are exposed to chronic stress they age more quickly." Cellular aging is what causes your skin to loose it's pretty elasticness! Stress causes your brain to release neuro peptides. Neuro peptides are free radicals that damage your cell membranes so that they loose water. This dehydration leads to lines, less skin tone and even dark circles.
The best way to treat this is NOT through creams or medicines. It's through learning how NOT to become stressed. Do things that relax you and take you away. For me it is drawing, reading, exercising, and getting a nice massage - usually from friends because I can't afford a masusse. lol. Also drink lots of water in order to stay hydrated! Eat foods rich in antioxidants and glucosamine in order to lock in that hydration and you are all set!
