Treating Acne Scars

Acne Scars:
If you're like most people who have suffered from acne you more than likely have a couple acne scars. While most acne scars are best treated through surgery and skin resurfacing there are other ways to help.
After an acne wound has healed it leaves a red (hyper-pigmented) mark on the skin. This is usually not a scar just the process of the skin healing. The scar goes through a remodeling process that usually takes six to twelve months. If after a year the scar isn't gone then you should assume it is permanent. The best way to prevent acne scars is to not get acne/acne lesions however, that can be unavoidable.
Post-inflammatory changes (directly after the acne lesion) is part of the skins healing time and there are certain things you can do to help the healing period.
1. Exposure to sun causes more skin damages/delays healing. So wear a good sunscreen.
2. Using tretinoin this speeds up the skins remolding process (Retin-A, Renova, Avita).
3. Do not pick scabs! Scabs protect the healing process and if it is removed it will take longer.
4. There is no proof that antioxidants help the healing process, but it is said that they are good to eat for it.
The best treatment for acne scars are done in a dermatologist office. So if the retinoids or vitamin c aren't working then you should go visit your dermatologist.
